Since the start of the year we have had 6 helpers stay here through HelpX. We started off with 2 Canadian girls who stayed for about a week over New Years, and a British couple who also stayed for about a week in February. Alex and Ella were great and it has really handy having a man here to help me out with some of the more physical jobs that I couldn’t do by myself.
The helper that we have seen the most of was Caroline from France, who originally came to stay for a week in January. She was great to have around and so we asked her to come and house sit for us at the end of February while we went to Auckland for Paula’s retraining. She stayed here with her friend Hannah from the USA and did a great job looking after the place, it was so lovely to come back to a wonderfully clean and tidy house, a weeded garden, and a lovely meal.
After leaving to do more travelling Caroline then came back to stay with us before flying out to Australia. She just slotted straight back into our household and helped out with everything, from baking and cooking, to looking after Noah (she is a school teacher in France), to doing all sorts of jobs outside. While she was here we helped her sell her trusty car Madonna that she had driven around NZ for the last 5 months. We were very sad to see her go, in total she had spent about a month in our house. Hannah will be back this week for a night before flying out herself.
We will have to start looking for some more helpers as there are still plenty of things on our list to do!
