First Run with the Austin Club

Last weekend was my first chance to take the ute for a run with the Mainland Branch of the Austin Flying A Enthusiasts Club.
We met at President Val’s place in Ashburton for lunch, and then it was into the annual competition for the Gordon Hood Memorial Trophy. The challenge was to reproduce the flying A symbol onto a rock.
Despite my complete lack of artistic ability, my rock was judged to be the best, and so I won the trophy and a bottle of wine. There was some talk of a conspiracy as the judge was another ute owner! As the winner of the trophy it is up to me to organise the run and competition for Waitangi Day 2012.
We then set off to nearby Lake Hood for some afternoon tea, and some photo opportunities. It was great to see the 3 utes lined up together.

Noah and I had a great day out, and I am pleased to say the ute didn’t miss a beat, despite some pretty hot temperatures.

This post is dedicated to A Cottage in Clarkville’s biggest fan, who not only encouraged me to start the blog, but also to become an old car owner. Thank you for both, no regrets on either front! Our thoughts are with you.

I know it should be apparent but which is the winning rock?

I was thinking the same – which one is yours?! Great prize, do you think the others knew if you won you’d have to organise?

Chris – you are the son of Tav – just remember….not all your children will be enthused for ever!!! šŸ˜‰

It is the green one, bottom left. Paula suspected that they just wanted someone new to organise next year’s rally, I am sure it was just because it was a great rock painting!
