As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am currently doing a pruning course. We are nearly at the end of the course. I have learnt a lot, but there is so much more that I think I need to know. A couple off weeks ago we had a practical day here at the cottage. There was not a lot of actual pruning done, but we did spend a lot of time looking at all of our different plants and assessing what they needed. I had to have reasonably thick skin as much of the talk was about how the plants were overdue to be pruned. I already knew that of course, and it was great to look at what we should be doing.
One serious bit of pruning that did take place though was on the tree behind the pump shed. Half of this tree had died away, and it was discovered that the trunk had split away down at the base. Our tutor Brent got in with his pruning saw and cut all the dead wood away. He then took a few branches out from the other side in order to balance up the look of the tree.
