A bit of a mixed bag with our old orchard this year. The plums produced well again this year which the birds enjoyed. We have picked a few but the trees are massive and it’s impossible to get them all. Haven’t done anything productive with them. They are quite small and I don’t think they are any good for bottling or making sauce. My battle against the codling moth has failed. The apple crop is also well down this year, it must have been my severe pruning that they didn’t like. There should still be enough to make plenty of cider though. The wee pear tree is doing ok, but it looks like the best crop this year will be the nectarines and peaches, both are looking really good. The peach tree in fact has produced a bit too well for its own good, with a couple of branches breaking under the weight of the fruit.
