A Hamilton Holiday

I know everyone has been fretting over the lack of updates, it’s because we have been away in sunny Hamilton visiting friends. We had a great time, we visited the Waitomo Caves which I hadn’t seen since I was a very young chap, and they were great. The highlight was the Ruakuri Cave which has only been open a few years. Highly recommended.Stalagmites, Ruakuri Cave

On the way home from there we stopped for a very big ice cream from the ‘Big Az’ Icecream place just south of Otorohanga. Also recommended.

We also visited the famous Hamilton Gardens which was indeed all it had been hyped to be. I was most excited by their vege garden area, and also the area that had chickens, bees and compost.

I did enjoy jumping over the fence to our friends’ neighbouring empty section where there was a huge lemon and grapefruit tree. We enjoyed fresh grapefruit for breakfast as well as bringing back a good supply of citrus in the luggage. A good swap for the leg of lamb, walnuts and eggs that we went up there with.

So a great time had by all, now back to catch up on a few jobs. The mower has been returned and so need to get onto the lawns, my seeds have sprouted so need to get those into the garden, as well plant a lot more seeds. The priority at the moment though is getting a dog run made where the spa pool used to be. Am just in the process of lining the old pump shed so it can be used as a sleeping area.
